Let the Right One In (Tomas Alfredson, 2008)
The Mist (Frank Darabont, 2007)
There Will Be Blood (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2007)
No Country for Old Men (Ethan and Joel Coen, 2007)
4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days (Cristian Mungiu, 2007)
Wall-E (Andrew Stanton, 2008)
Hunger (Steve McQueen, 2008)
The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan, 2008)
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Tim Burton, 2007)
Taxi to the Dark Side (Alex Gibney, 2007)
Honourable mention: Water Lilies, Teeth, In Bruges, Eden Lake, Gone Baby Gone, Happy-Go-Lucky, Out of the Blue, Son of Rambow.
Films that might be on the list if I had gotten round to watching them on time: Waltz with Bashir, Man on Wire, Gomorrah, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Blindness.
Worst of the year: Wanted, Mamma Mia!, Rambo, Outpost, Diary of the Dead (there are probably some worse ones that I haven’t seen, like Disaster Movie, but I just can’t bring myself to watch it).
These are all movies that I saw in 2008; some of them may have been released elsewhere in 2007, or may not be released in the UK until 2009.
I could have expanded on my choices, given reasons as to why they are on my list, but I'm currently too consumed with Fallout 3 and I'm ill.
Hope you all have a terrible Christmas and a shitty new year!
